How long does treatment take?

Depending on your genotype, treatment takes either 3-6 months (12-24 weeks) or a year (48 weeks).

If your genotype is 2 or 3, treatment takes 12-24 weeks. After 4 weeks you will be given a Hepatitis C RNA test to look for an Rapid Viral Response (RVR) to see if you are responding quickly to treatment. If the test is negative, meaning virus can no longer be detected, the length of treatment may be reduced to 12 or 16 weeks.

If your genotype is 1,4,5 or 6, treatment takes 48 weeks. After 12 weeks you will be given a Hepatitis C RNA Viral Load Test to look for an Early Viral Response (EVR) to see if you are responding well to treatment. If so, treatment will be continued for 48 weeks.
